2012-08-11 Thread laser...@juno.com
This showed up on eBay this morning. Very well equipped panel with a
Revmaster 2100. Seller says it needs to be "re-certified" and that he
can't afford a hangar in a part of the country where hangars are about
the cheapest anywhere. Those things don't make sense, however this looks
like a great opportunity for someone. Comes with both a Sterba and a
Prince - looks like a turnkey airplane to me.

2008-10-12 Thread kr2flyer
Spoke with Chuck Stone, owner of this KR2. He purchased it from another
owner, not the builder (Vernon Reese). He has flown it about 50 hours. As I
suspected, he had a fire which burned the cowling. It developed from spilled
fuel in the carburetor area on takeoff. [Chuck said the problem was his
mistake of installing an electric fuel pump instead of having only gravity
feed from the header tank.] Five minute delay before the fire department
arrived on the scene. He said... all the wiring, hoses and accessories under
the cowl were not damaged, but he has NOT run the engine since the fire.
Prop has some visible burned spots. He is not a A&P nor the original
builder, but claims he personally did the annual inspection in March of 2006
(pre or post fire?)
I posed the question of the fire on the Ebay site and he replied with only
his phone #. He apparently did not want the fire issue to be seen or known
to potential buyers.
This is not up for bid. He is selling it for the Buy It Now price of
$11,000.00.
BUYER BEWARE.
See this KR before purchasing.
Or call him at 850.874.0200 Panama City, FL

2008-10-12 Thread D F Lively
Dan:

I am considering a Great Plains 1835 cc for mine and have priced it.

The basic engine with Motor mount for the Tri-Gear, Diehl accesory pkg with
electric start, induction & exhaust system and dual ignition assembled and
tested is about $5000 new
from Great Plains. The Diehl Gear with with pants & faitings is another $1200
or so and the Cleveland Hyd. brake system list out inthe neighborhood of $1400
so those goodies
added to the $8k to $9k for the basic materialkit runs the cost new to $15k to
$16k andthat does not include many of the things needed to have a flight ready
craft nor does it
include the labor to put it all together.

When you consider all this it almost a no brainer from a cost standpoint.

The KR2s is a compeditor to the Zenith 601 HD/HDS craft but is one that can be
built with woodworking tools where the Zenair product must be made from their
parts because it is all
metal. Then Zenair product can not be easily changed for that reason. The
LSA catagory approval was easily had because of the airfiol selection and the
wing span made it easy.
You for $3500 and the work infolved build HDS wings for the outer wings of the
HD and have aplane that is to fast for the LSA designation.

This is why I approched the notion of the "Hershy Bar" wing in some of my
inquiries because I knew that there was at least one other kit builder out
there that had done it and long
before the LSA situation ever arose. THe 601 HD has a 27 ft wing with
something in the vicinity of a 4 ft cord and it has a stall in the 40 mph
range. while The KR2s has a span of
23 and a stall in upper end of the LSA limitation at 900#. Thdo think if ther
is any limitation it is the KR's baggage allowance but with the KR2 you easily
make changes to the
desingn(within limits) much more easily than the Zenair 601 seies.

According to the homebuilders I've been hanging out with, the availability

The $8k to $9k was the posted price from RR. Wicks?AC. Spruce may be
different. Still list price of per spec. Mat'l for a KR2 can easily move to
$20k when fisished. Great Plains
Engines look still to be the mfg. price.

Listees:

I think you can use Doug-Fir but it really should be 1/4 sawn ---Logs are cut
such that sawing of the logs into boards is done in such a way that the
direction of cut is 90 degrees to the grain of the wood This reducethe
dendency to warp twist & deform, also the planks used should be absolutely
free of knots, pitch pockets and all other defects. Spruce has gon thru the
roof because good old growth timber is hard to find and then the 1/4 sawn
requirement creates a lot of waste. What ever you do you should use material
that matches the shear and bend stress of spruce as well as moisture content.
The Desity may be higher so craft weight will go up. I think it can be done.
but care should be taken.
