2008-10-12 Thread jscott.pi...@juno.com
The feds always rat you out to the state, but what the states do with the
information varies greatly from state to state. Here in NM you only pay
the annual registration, which is $.02/lb of gross weight for the first
two years, $.015/lb for the second 2 years, then $.01/lb of gross weight
once the airplane is more than 4 years old. My 1200 lb gross KR cost me
$24 the first two years, and now cost me $12/year to keep registered with
the state.

Other states often times expect to collect sales tax on either the value
of the plane or the value of the parts purchased that did not have sales
tax paid previously, plus the annual registration fee.

The FAA does not notify any state about any registration. The county you live
in has someone that checks the FAA registration office about once a month. I
have to friends that are in OK City with the FAA and they say for the FAA to
send out notices would be more than they are capable of. The FAA could care
less if the place you live charges tax on anything. If you notice the FAA can't
even stop a sale of an airplane if there is a lean on it.

Randy,

The thing is, that here in SC, you can run but you can't hide. The
only option you have is to have residence in another state that is more
favourable, or find a county that has lower taxes. As soon as you register it,
the FAA notifies the county of your address, that you have registered, then the
fun begins. You will be notified that you now have to pay taxes on over
100,000 worth of property as they have no way, nor do they even try, to find
what the value is. You then have to fight to the death with them to get the
value set where it is more appropriate, as if there could be such a value.

I don't know why we let our government do these things to us. As a
segment of all the species on earth, we have to be the most stupid.

I live in Denton Texas an we don't pay personnel property tax. Now
Dallas
has a personnel property tax but they have to find it first. A number of
people register there things in a county that does not charge tax. Just
get
a P.O.Box in the right county.

Guys,
I got one little step closer today. The registration card came in
the mail. I should be hearing from the tax man any minute now :-)
A snowy weekend - I should be able to finish a few things up.

In The Common Wealth of Pennsylvania. A few years ago when my uncle

The FAA is the snitch. They blab the fact that you have registered an
airplane, to your county, even if it is just a set of plans.

I live in NC and have registered my airplane. I received a tax declaration
statement a few days ago which will tax my airplane for the year if I
can't convince them that I have a collection of airplane parts, not a
complete airplane. The FAA will notify your state, and local government
when you register an airplane.
