Re: KR> Great Plains-Revmaster-O-200

2018-09-07 Thread Rob Schmitt via KRnet
Chris,

Just to give you some of my experience so far with my Revmaster VW;

I was able to successfully pick up a used Revmaster for my airplane for
about $2000. Per Revmaster it was on a Quickie in the 1980s but they could
not tell me how many hours it had on it. I spent about $1000 getting it
ready to fly. The main cost was getting the Bendix Dual Magneto overhauled
for $1000. I'm sure that is why I got the engine for only $2000.

I have 800 hours on it now and have probably spent another $2,500 on it
during those 800 hours. I replaced the Cylinder heads (replaced with Great
Plains heads) at 400 hours for about $1000, had to replace the case due to a
crack for $1000 (Revmaster case), and had the Magneto serviced and installed
a new wiring harness (500 hour IRAN) for $500.

Reliability has been good. None of the repairs I've done were because the
engine failed.

Thanks,

Rob Schmitt

I'm not planning to spend $8k - $9k, I'm looking into it to determine what
it will cost me. I suspect an O-200 might be too heavy for my V-Witt.

If I were building a 2s and planned to spend $8K to 9K on a VW I think
I'd be looking at an 0-200.
