The ~/.gtkrc file for gtk2-engines-gtk-qt should only get copied to the home
directory if there isn't an existing ~/.gtkrc file, if that's not the case we
should find out why. Maybe gnome doesn't make a ~/.gtkrc file by default.

The workaround proposed by Luka Renko seems to be an elegant and simple
workaround indeed! It would be great to keep gtk2-engines-gtk-qt by default in
Kubuntu as it allows for a much better integration of GNOME applications under
KDE.
Thanks a lot!
kmail depends on kdepim-kio-plugins | kdebase-kio-plugins so if you don't have
kubuntu-desktop installed (which depends on kdebase-kio-plugins) this could
happen
surely anyone wanting to use kmail plans on sending mail so should
kdebase-kio-plugins be a depend?

Are you logged under user that was created during installation?
Can you provide output of "id" command?
Your username should be in group "cdrom" to get access to CD/DVD devices.

libdvdcss is discussed in /usr/share/doc/libdvdread3/README.Debian so to answer
your question, no, it is not illegal for Ubuntu to talk about it. You'll find
it clearly explained in the Desktop Guide for Ubuntu and Kubuntu 6.06. In fact,
libdvdcss2 is not clearly illegal either.
