The bug was fixed (I think some time ago) in the 3.5 branch of kubuntu.
The Gentoo version never exhibited the bug so I figure it was just the
specific package I was having a problem with. I assume all is well in
the KDE 4 series but I'm not using that branch yet so I don't know.

Tested this with KDE 3.5.9. It works as long as the underlying info file
exist and is reachable. info: in the address bar gives the directory
similar as info on commandline.

I am closing this. You need to unmount (Safely Remove) your USB drive
properly. In Gutsy and Hardy there is a progressbar when unmounting to
make sure everything gets synced before the drive is unplugged.

excessive CD notification in concurrent sessions
I can verify the crash/freeze when changing DVB channel after a short
period when pulse audio is used. Kaffeine does this only when changing a
channel and the DVB stream has been playing for a while. Changing
channel on the beginning of the DVB streaming it works fine. I have
pulse audio enabled
This crash was fixed in Okular (the KDE 4 replacement of KPDF), which is
going to be default PDF reader in Kubuntu Intrepid (due in October).
