to test Ubuntu, everything worked the first time:-) But I still like
the KDE feel.

Unfortunately the multimedia backend of choice (xine) does not support
midi, thus providing midi file support would require adding a second
backend or an application which processes midi directly. The former is
not possible due to CD space restrictions and the latter raises security
issues since

I installed kubuntu-desktop to get kde but run gnome and gdm by default.
Every time kdm (I assume) gets an update, it resets itself as the
default and I must edit /etc/X11/default-display-manager to set gdm
back.

There's also a 'warning only' variant of this bug: I have been getting
warnings from Yahoo Admin on this version, though I can still log in for

Since yesterday's update, I get flashing screen during auto-login. This
seems to be caused by exchanging login splash image and black screen.
Before that, autologin was just done without splash and I just ended

And this happens with 4:4.3.1-0ubuntu3, with 0ubuntu2 there isn't problem with
autologin.

After logging out of a KDE or GNOME session, kdm appears to hang with a
black screen (with single white cursor) and a dead keyboard (Ctrl-
Alt-F{1..9} doesn't do anything; not even NumLock can be triggered.)

System Settings - Login Manager - Users
The System UIDs editboxes contain 1000 and 2 initially. In the
below box, remove last 0 (so the contents becomes 100). Now many
system users are shown in the list. Put that 0 back, system users are
not

broken here, but in the meantime I've cobbled up an awful hack to make

J, it may be stupid for me to ask. But did you reboot after removing
scim? This is one of the few times that one needs to reboot linux to get
thing fixed. Maybe restarting X will work too but I never tried.
There are lots of jvm problem regarding Matlab. It may worth try
changing to another jvm
