I experience the same behaviour with digiKam with KDE SC 4.4 Beta 2 from
Kubuntu PPA Backports Beta repository. First, I've tried it on my old
collection from digiKam 1.0 Beta 5(?) + KDE SC 4.3.4, next I've renamed
digiKam configs in ~/.kde directory so the digiKam configuration wizzard
made new
After that I've tried for the second time cleaning digKam configuration and
databases and this time digiKam properly generated new configs and databases
and then it worked - I could navigate, open photos, even download photos from
camera's SDHC card.
Then I've closed digiKam and tried to open

Btw. in kubuntu-ppa/beta there's still missing new kipi-plugins 1.0
package and stable digiKam 1.0 (my report is about 1.0.0~rc-

[PPA] On newest PPA beta (KDE 4.4beta1) digikam crashes every time at startup
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/497562
Is there a way to make this reproducible for others?
I guess that moving away you .amarok folder (cannot see where it's
located currently, probably ~/.kde4/share/apps/amarok or ~/.amarok*)
works around this and something in there (or your media collection)
triggers this infinite loop.
I suggest
It's still crashing with digikam_1.0.0-1ubuntu1~karmic1+ppa1_i386.deb.
Tried as above - even cleaning configuration and databases didn't help.
I've tried 7 times but I didn't get it to run without crash. At 7-th
time it completed database creation but crashed at loading.

Then I would suspect the problem comes from specific file that is being
processed by exiv2 library. The last reported file is:
/home/xeros/Obrazy/Zdjecia/INNE/24-06-07_1025.jpg
Was this file/directory added to your collection recently? Can you run
exiv2 file for that file and see if exiv2 command

And I've not experienced now any other crashes, hangs etc.

Same here with Mint 8 printing from Okular over a network to a Brother

prints the document on the reverse side, regardless of duplex settings.
I also get the failure to print multiple copies.

GNOME apparently does a very nice job of this now. Even in KDE with gvfs
packages removed, gtkpod reacts and opens up the iPhone automatically
after mounting the device with ifuse. Solid only reacts when the device
itself is connected - at which point Amarok correctly deduces that it's
not a media
