This problem causes menus to not show the current selection. It is to me
surprisingly annoying to select an entry without the normal highlight
of the menu items. To me it was more than just the looks.
The upstream patch fixes the problem for me. It applied cleanly to
current (k)ubuntu .deb
Setting 'export GDMSESSION=$DESKTOP_SESSION' at the top of
/etc/kde4/kdm/Xsession didn't work for me. It appeared I already had
compiz-gnome, unity, and compiz-core installed, so I didn't bother with
that step.

Binary package hint: kopete
Everything works fine in preview but when trying to view or send cam on
yahoo network kopete complains:
Unable to find the Jasper image conversion program.
Jasper is required to render Yahoo webcam images.
Please see
Downloading the previous version of Kopete from :
http://packages.ubuntu.com/maverick/i386/kopete/download
then installing with:
sudo dpkg -i kopete_4.5.1-0ubuntu2.2_i386.deb
rolls back to previous version where it works flawlessly.
Unfortunately upgrading to the current version via
sudo

BTW, this was tested with the current Kubuntu Oneiric beta using plasma-
widget-folder version 4:4.6.3-1ubuntu1... though I know this bug has
been present in the previous version as well.
