With nvidia-325.15, I've had several reboots, cold boots and log-ins,
and Akonadi started well every time.
BTW, most of the random problems I mentioned in Comment 25 were caused
by nvidia-331.20 too. Even Amarok didn't exit on quitting sometimes.
Thank you, Fuchs!

You received this bug
I removed my nVidia card and the driver, and Akonadi starts OK now.
I didn't experience the problems in the other reports in comment 52 of
^C not working in xterm (or Konsole, either).
I have a suspicion that I was mistaken in comment 32 when I said that
Akonadi only started 4 out of 5 times
So k3b settings says:
Default Temporary Directory: /tmp/kde-username/
It would seem to make sense for the k3b to either choose a tmp directory
that exists or to create it itself.

I removed all proprietary Nvidia stuff and switched to using Nouveau drivers.
Akonadi starts o.k.. No problems whatsoever so far.
Seems the current Nvidia drivers were causing the troubles.
Still I need the proprietary drivers for my CAD stuff. Maybe using Nvidia
325.15 is an interim
I think the lesson here is to not use localepurge?
Knut, I suspect parts of your system are still botched because of localepurge,
if you run debsums with sudo it *could* *maybe* give an indication of which
files were altered/removed WRT localization causing issues like the dictionary
names.
** Description changed:
Starting the userconfig applet from the KDE Control Center brings up the
kdesudo prompt but entering a password causes the prompt to go away and
the applet never starts.
Apport is currently crashing itself whenever it reports a bug, so I'm
just going to have
On my i386 net installation - I've got the same problem.
After entering the root password - nothing happens .
Running kdesudo kcmshell4 userconfig: no output on the terminal.

No problems after the nvidia driver downgrade so far. Akonadi started
consistently the last days.

Title:
After Upgrade to Kubuntu
Another 24 hrs on and no repeat of the keyboard problems through several
sleep / wakes etc. I think this is increasingly looking like some cross
talk with power devil.

WTF is this bug? every month I can't use kontact because something is
broken (akonadi, kmail, nepomuk, ...) and now it is the Nvidia driver? I
have upgraded the nvidia driver to 331.20-3 on archlinux and upgraded to
the newes kernel 3.12.6-1 after reboot akonadi seems to work now...

You
O.K.
If you don't mind having a brief look a bug #1262068 (status:fix-released)
Title: nvidia-prime should support gdm also
In special comment #4 there, which describes the fix:
nvidia-prime (0.5.2) trusty; urgency=low
* debian/control:
- Add an alternative dependency on gdm and kdm
