To fix this run
sudo apt-get install qdbus:amd64
for general information on what is going wrong see the other bug report.
Short version: qdbus:i386 is installed but the tool orchestrating binary
Following the discussion I am not sure if we as the distro can and will
fix this issue.
If you think it is a bug in the upstream code then please file a bug
against the upstream project. Or please suggest a doable change in the
Ubuntu release.

After kubuntu 14.04 upgrade, am unable to activate KNotes (package kdepim). On
clicking the app, there is no response whatsoever. Previously, the note
appeared on screen immediately.

Package kipi-plugins /has/ automatically been installed.
And all recommended packages for kipi-plugins are there, too.
On the other hand, when I look (in synaptic) at the recommended packages for
digikam, kipi-plugins is not among them.
