More googling suggests this has to do with using bumblebee to use the
nvidia and intel GPUs. I used the following blog to install the nvidia
drivers.

I can now use either GPU at my disposal:
$ glxgears -info
Public bug reported:
akonadi_imap_resource worked well until a few hours after I upgraded
with `apt-get upgrade`. The upgrade required a reboot. The crash
appeared before I rebooted. The crashing persisted after the reboot.
I don't know if this is related or not, but I installed docker.io this
