Never mind. Unity obviously uses unity-settings-daemon these days.
I believe Ubuntu GNOME will want to hard depend on libinput for yakkety
so it would be good if unity-control-center could handle libinput too so
that Touchpad Settings work well for those who use both GNOME and Unity.

To reproduce this problem:
boot off the xubuntu live image (tested with 16.04) and run
sudo apt-get install gwenview
gwenview .
This displays a dialogue box with:
Error - Gwenview
URL cannot be listed
file://home/xubntu
[OK]
After which gwenview opens, but it is unable to browse directories.
I have the same problem in kubuntu 16.04 LTS. What can I do to fix this
problem?

Installing xserver-xorg-input-libinput is necessary to get Touchpad
options to show in gnome-control-center 3.20.

Bugs,
There are more QT4 Pim pkgs that I could purge from my system:
libkcalcore4
libkabc4
libkldap4
libkmime4
libkpimutils4
libkresources4
other qt4 pim pkgs can't be removed because kopete, ktorrent, amarok
kmymoney still depend on them.

jklasdf, I think you are correct. It seems more related to the bug here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kubuntu-meta/+bug/1571564
which you also mention as possibly related, even if my problem didn't
appear in the same way or at the same tie (straight after upgrade/when
installing).
Any news on this bug (filed last year)? This is a showstopper for anyone
not using linux on a hobbyist basis where every username is stored
locally in /etc/passwd and not in some centralized ldap db.–or made
available via sssd, which certainly is more common in a work/corporate
env.
