You don't have to change your root password.
The administrator for all these cases is someone with sudo privileges
(the one user that was created first). If you are the first user, then
your password is what you should enter, not the root password.

I think the user is referring to the http://my.yahoo.com page after you
log in. One can change the layout to be 3-columns or 2-columns in the
Layout preferences.

Does this happen with other browsers at the same page?
Does this happen on any other website which lets you choose the number of
columns?
My thinking is that it could as well be a bug with the layout in the
newly released yahoo! design.
