I think he got that, but something else must be going on, as for us plasma
5 is working fine with lightdm. Although I recall an issue at first
instance (not sure now what was it). I would just recommend to try it
again...

For the case it may be useful for others, the bug is in the kded daemon
for application menus. Since I disabled it, I found no more of these
problems in (1) konqueror/rekonq; neither a temporary lapse in which (2)
kile was irresponsive on startup (which I realized after filling this
bug), as well

the file was located in this path:
/usr/share/kubuntu-default-
settings/kde4-profile/default/share/config/kdeglobals
I preferred to move it to /usr/share/kubuntu-default-

could you please consider to do as Opensuse and Fedora to fix this

This is not working yet in Kubuntu Quantal Alpha 2, but in principle it
should as now packages are in the universe repositories. I guess
somebody needs to update the dependencies of plasma-widget-
networkmanagement to include openconnect
