Seems like accented character sequences (dead keys) are enabled as it affects kdm and most everything in KDE. The following are affected on a US keyboard: ~ (tilde) ` (grave accent) ' (apostrophe) (ampersand) ^ (caret) (double quote) To generate these characters they need to be entered twice.
