I also have this same problem with Ubuntu 20.04.4 and plasma-workspace 5.18.8-0ubuntu0.1. I think this is caused by the following upstream bug: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=439604 That bug is closed without a fix though, because 5.18 is unmaintained. However, there's another upstream

Just reproduced in a clean install in a VM to rule out configuration cruft on my laptop. With plasma-workspace 5.18.5 it doesn't appear, on 5.18.8 it does, as shown in the attached video. ** Attachment added: "kubuntu-screen-locking-after-upgrade.webm"
