pasting the relevant part of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf seems like a good
idea

Did you edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf as described in the wiki and on the forums?
Does the translucency work, although your system is slow?
My problem with the composite manager has been that it crashes X once a day or
so.
