yes, kopete seems to be responsible for this behavior. I was imediately able to
reproduce this: after the desktop freezes, a "killall kopete" brings kdesktop
back to normal state. after killing kopete, the following messages are
appearing in ~/.xsession-errors:
DCOP aborting call from 'kdesktop'
I'm having the same problem and in my case it's somehow linked to
running kopete. Whenever the desktop freezes, kopete also freezes.
Killing kopete unfreezes the desktop again.

I also have this problem, and to me there is no logical reason behind
it. It happened with pictures and recently with a deb. I just installed
with RMB and then I wanted to delete it using RMB remove but the desktop
frozereally annoying bug.

kdesktop freezes often during RMB action
I'm also seeing this on my Dapper installation. It doesn't happen on
every RMB action but I'd say this has happened daily since a couple days
ago.
