[Bug 108916] Re: DNS Addresses not retained in System Settings

2007-04-29 Thread Roderick Drew
There seems to be a workaround which I stumbled upon somewhere herein.
Thanks! One can enter DNS name-servers by adding the following line to
/etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf:

prepend domain-name-servers 192.168.60.1, 172.16.254.2;

(The name-servers above are obviously examples)

Those name servers will always be placed first in /etc/resolve.conf

It has worked for me so far with no apparent ill side-effects.

[Bug 93397] Re: Compose key + XKB do not work correctly in KDE

2007-04-29 Thread Maini Marco
Right Alt is allowed as compose key. However locale settings affect the
combinations used to compose characters. I think that default setting
should be en_US.UTF-8 so the combinations are listed in
/usr/share/X11/locale/en_US.UTF-8/compose.

If you experience other problems, feel free to report. Thanks

[Bug 93081] Re: konqueror does not accept SSL certificates forever

2007-04-29 Thread Lynoure Braakman
Indeed, it seemed to accept the certificate of your school permanently.
So it seems Konqueror makes a difference between certificates that do
not match the domain name and self-signed certificates.

I still think this is a bug. If you disagree, could you tell me what
Konqueror should do after it has offered to accept the certificate
forever? If not accept it forever, it should not even offer to do that
(and thus require an extra click). If it deems name-mismatched
certificates too insecure to be accepted forever, maybe it should not
accept them at all, or at least say name mismatch, only accepting for
this session instead of requiring the user to choose between options
that will not be honored anyway.

For me this bug is one of the only reasons I have not retired Firefox
yet and gone 100% konqueror.

[Bug 83074] Re: amarok can't play last.fm, some radio streams (feisty)

2007-04-29 Thread Luke Plant
I never had a line in my /etc/hosts that had: 127.0.1.1 laptop

So I didn't see how this could be relevant. I had added some additional
127.0.0.1 lines to my hosts files, which I removed (restoring it to
pristine condition), and it made no difference. I tried manually adding
my hostname against 127.0.0.1, which also made no difference. ifconfig
lo looks like:

loLink encap:Local Loopback
  inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
  inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host
  UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1
  RX packets:2657 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
  TX packets:2657 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
  collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
  RX bytes:805852 (786.9 KiB) TX bytes:805852 (786.9 KiB)

So that all seems in order. My network is a wireless WPA connection
(which seems to be working fine). I do have an ethernet card, eth0,
which isn't connected to anything. My 'eth0' was supposedly 'up' (but
no IP address, as there isn't anything connected and the DHCP requests
just time out). If I do a manual 'ifdown eth0' (and restart apps etc) I
get no change.

In short, I haven't been able to do anything to the network to get this
to work, and it all seems to have very sensible, default settings.

If you want me to do some other debugging, let me know what types of
things to look at.

Thanks

Interesting! Great to hear that fixed things. We've arrange to ensure
xresprobe is installed on all installations (in Feisty, xresprobe was
left out of the default installs), so that should hopefully fix this
issue permanently.

That's not going to be flawless either. X hardware detection is also very
 buggy.
However, I think it is step in the right direction. Instead of maintaining a
different hardware detection with different bugs Ubuntu users will collect
data about the cases where X detection fails.

Certainly, it won't be perfect. But the advantage of using something
common with upstream is we can rely on the larger community to help with
addressing those bugs, and won't have to fix them independently.

I also plan to continue maintaining the current system and hopefully
fixing up whatever bugs can easily be repaired, so that it will be
available if the upstream detection system fails in some circumstances
and a fallback is required. I think you mentioned in one of the other
bugs that there are cases where xresprobe works but xorg's detection
doesn't.
