Scott, thanks for explaining how to enable trusty-proposed.
Unfortunately, this doesn't help at all since the bug happens when
installing from DVD or USB stick, so we really need an ISO image which
contains the new package.

If I enable the option located at [System Settings > Input Devices >
Touchpad > Enable/Disable Touchpad > "Disable touchpad when mouse is
plugged in" checkbox] , the next time I start my computer, the touchpad
will be disabled regardless if there's a mouse plugged in or not.
as described in the past... autostart in kf5 works via
/etc/xdg/autostart
