What can I do to help to solve this problem? I tried it several times.
Mostly it crashes. I do it to see my conky, so I killed conky and tried
once more and kwin crashed. It is enough when I minimize all windows
(win+tab) a do it once again. So it crashes always when I minimize all
windows and do
I hate to be a me too, but... me too, was there before Fiesty, now gone.
In my case Log put takes you to a log in screen, and from there you can
choose Options Shutdown, not my preffered method...
This set up is AMD64, Fiesty and there is Gnome, Xubuntu and Kubuntu
installed, Kubuntu is default

I had the same problem after upgrading to feisty beta.
For me this problem only exists, if my default display manager is gdm.
So a workaround (not a solution) is to enable kdm as your dsplay manager.
Usesudo dpkg-reconfigure kdm and select kdm as your display manager.

I had the same problem, the crash occurred during the installation of
vim-runtime (from /var/log/dpkg.log).
A few packages before dpkg failed to install j2re1.4 (I forgot to accept the
license terms).
I did the following :
rm /var/lib/dpkg/lock
rm /var/cache/apt/archives/lock
dpkg --configure
