This must be a regression somewhere in kdm for failing to kill plymouth.
It's the DM's responsibility to stop plymouth when it's ready - and the
plymouth code hasn't changed (as evidenced by everything still working
right with GDM).

When I reported the bug, Lucid was still in Beta. I do not encounter
this problem anymore. This bug should be closed.
