Had the same problem in Kubuntu 14.04 beta: “qdbus” and “qt4-dev-tools”
packages were already installed, but I was still unable to log in.
However, removing “qt5-default” helped.

Yeah, if qt5-default is installed but not qdbus-qt5 it will try to use
the dbus that does not exist and fail.

After I downloaded the latest updates, I haven't seen it crash so far,
though I've seen this process consume a lot of CPU for a while. I assume
it's some sort of background processing indexing my files for easy
searching.

Rename /usr/lib/libreoffice/program/libvclplug_kde4lo.so to
/usr/lib/libreoffice/program/libvclplug_kdelo.so fixes the problem with
4.2.3~rc3-ubuntu1
The name seems to be changed in this way in 4.2.3.2 and onwards

Oops, my suggestion probably just hides the problem, libreoffice starts,
