[Bug 774985] Re: kate does not load last-used session
I would guess KDE does not want to bother. Kate is much too complex a software program for the likes of me. With Authentication:Simple selected, I could only fill in the "Bind DN" and "Password" fields for my data - The "User" field was grayed out. There were no contacts in the main window at this point. In order to access the server addressbook, I had to go into the configfile by hand and set the "User" field to the correct value (same as Bind DN), at which point all the contacts appeared correctly. I guess the "User" field shouldn't be disabled for Simple Authentication, unless I'm missing something. (1) I am not sure it was intentional for Neon to switch to mariadb. This may be a result of the packaging for the mysql backend having: Depends: libqt5sql5-mysql, mysql-client-core-5.6 | virtual-mysql-client-core, mysql-server-core-5.6 | virtual-mysql-server-core, whereas mysql 5.6 package do not exist in Bionic (5.7 is there) so mariadb gets pulled in instead. (2) This looks very similar to https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=392948 which was supposedly fixed. I would note that the same result and workaround mkdir -p ~/.local/share/akonadi/db_data/ before starting akonadi for the 1st time, works with both mariadb on Neon and mysql on Kubuntu. Thank you. Description of problem: Open KPPP to set-up a modem connection via Gnome desktop. KPPP window opens, but freezes on manual set-up when the new account is selected. However, if you select the modem tab first, you can enter modem settings and then the new account settings can be entered, but this isn't the way it normally works. Even when settings are eventually entered into KPPP as described above, the modem won't connect with KPPP (I think the error code 16 comes up, but will need to check). Entering settings and connecting to the ISP do work with System-Config-Network via Gnome, though. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Didn't work with the original component when F9 came out, and doesn't work with the current update (10 June 2008): kdenetwork-4.0.5-3.fc9.i386.rpm How reproducible: Every time, even when a reboot is tried. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open KPPP and try to enter modem account and set-up settings. 2. KPPP freezes when the new account manual set-up is selected. 3. Managed to enter settings if the modem settings are entered first, then the new account settings, but modem won't connect. Actual results: Not able to connect with KPPP even when settings are eventually able to be entered. Expected results: Expect to be able to enter settings, and connect to ISP. Additional info: System-Config-Network works and the modem connects. Comment #1 From Steven M. Parrish on 2008-06-20 17:11 EST [reply] Checked upstream and could not find matching bug report. So PATH has the following: /opt/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games Now, when I launch "kdialog --msgbox `echo $PATH`" using ALT+F2 it shows correctly: /opt/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games When I launch "myapp" using ALT+F2 it runs /opt/bin/myapp as expected. But, and this is what I think is a BUG, when I launch "myapp_entry" using ALT+F2 it runs /usr/bin/myapp and not /opt/bin/myapp as I would expect. It's in the KStandardDirs::findExe() function. From line 937 (http://api.kde.org/3.5-api/kdelibs- apidocs/kdecore/html/kstandarddirs_8cpp-source.html#l00937) QString p = QString("%1/%2").arg(kfsstnd_defaultbindir()).arg(real_appname); you can see that it uses function kfsstnd_defaultbindir() to get the absolute path to the application. KStandardDirs::kfsstnd_defaultbindir() returns __KDE_BINDIR and, from the ubuntu packages, the default compiled value for __KDE_BINDIR is /usr/bin. So, it doesn't matter what you set in your PATH environment variable, but it always will execute /usr/bin/myapp. IMHO, I think that KStandardDirs::findExe() should use KStandardDirs::kfsstnd_defaultbindir() as the last option to find the absolute path to the application (and not as the second one, as is coded right now). Any comments? Thanks...
