When I enable notifications of arriving messages and check the option to show
them only if the chat window is not on the current desktop, it works, but only
until I change desktops: from then it displays on every desktop, also the one
that the chat window is open on.

Yes it is how you described it.
My english sometimes prevents me from writing very complete reports, sorry.
My dpkg.log is also overwritten, should i do a fresh install to get it or it
can do without ?
