The last version I tried had a grub menu entry for running a debug
version of esx. Using -serial stdio I could then see more verbose
output (IIRC).
But there really was a thread with debugging help and pointers to
patches about esx on kvm
I should also point out that I am testing with esxi 4.0, which has a
64bit requirement.

Finally got it to work on a 32 bit OS (Ubuntu 9.04), both on the
phenom 9950 and another machine. I haven't tried running any guests
yet.
I suppose the TSC patch doesn't work on 64 bit hosts.
