Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Pootle is now down
As a translator, I think that easily accessible and stable translation service is more important than what the service platform is run on. If we are keeping encountering problems like this, I suggest cooperate with Transifex.net service. They have done a very stable translation platform. Furthermore, many open source projects also cooperate with them, including Fedora, Mageia, MeeGo, xfce. For example, transifex does not support ts file (Qt translation) before version 1.0. When MeeGo project decides to use Qt as their main toolkit, Transifex.net developed that feature for MeeGo in 1.0 version. And now it is quite easy to translate MeeGo on Transifex.net. I believe Transifex.net will happily to cooperate with LibreOffice too. So if we cannot get Pootle server running well all the time, please consider use other ways or platforms to provide better service for tranlstors. -- Sincerely, by Cheng-Chia Tseng -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to l10n+h...@global.libreoffice.org Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/l10n/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

[libreoffice-l10n] How to Get Translation Template of Extension?
The LibreOffice and OOo team in Chinese (Traditional) are two different teams. Both maintain their own translations now, and some terms are translated in different ways (have no common consensus). On Saturday, the leader of OOo Chinese (Traditional) Team contacts me that maybe we can hold the translation on a site called Tryneeds-Chinese to save the manpower, and I agreed to try. The propsed work process: 1. Download the zip of po files and upload them to that site. 2. Work on that site together, and use search feature to know how this string is translated by others. 3. Upload the output compressed file to Pootle sever before deadline. Now the major problem is that Extension of LibreOffice does not provide en_US template do download for the local site to create a fake po file. So how can I get the translation template? Besides that problem, that site has extremly slow preformance with so much directories and files provided by LibreOffice. It takes me about 26s to load the testing page set up for LibreOffice. By the way, I would like to ask you that how will you manage to solve this kind of issue - how to cooperate with OOo team (a different team from LibreO) with the translation to save the manpower? Any other ideas? Re: [libreoffice-l10n] How to Get Translation Template of Extension?
Andras, thanks for your information. If I understand your problem correctly, then you need to download https://translations.documentfoundation.org/templates/extensions/export/zip Those are the en-US templates for extensions, however, they are in their native .properties format, because Pootle can handle this format, too. You can convert them to .po format with prop2po tool form the translate-toolkit, if you want. I don't have the right to create ZIP archives. As you may know, Pootle is able to handle very large projects now thanks to the great work the team has provided. There is all the tools needed for the translation process, but also you can assign task and objectives to a member or a team. I've worked on the first chapter of the OOoAuthors guide for beginners. I used WordForge filters [1] to convert the file from .odt (ODF file format) to .xlf (XLIFF file format). Both are standards, so it should be easier to have a good conversion. Several tools manage off line translation for Xliff file format, like WordForge or OmegaT, there may be others I don't know too. Rimas has kindly uploaded the file on Pootle [2], creating a new project for several languages for the beginning. Currently, en_GB fr hu ko nl oc pt_BR ru zh_CN . Those are the 7 languages for which libo33 project is fully localized plus hu and nl. The issue we meet is that the strings appears as needing review instead of being empty. If other team wants to give a try, please follow the same process as for the extensions project, post on the mailing list and Rimas (big thanks to him :) will take care of your request. Please, follow up on the l10n list for the moment, we will settle a more precise workflow once we have solved the issued that may raised and that we are sure most (I know we miss an offline tool currently for Mac translators) of the needs to work quietly and efficiently on the documentation translation.
