SCHOOL TO PRISON PIPELINE

California with the world's highest incarceration rate locks up
juveniles at $252,000 /year vs. $1200 - $1500/year to keep a child in an
intervention or prevention program.
Melinda Bird, senior counsel at the ACLU of Southern California, monitors
the L.A. County jails for the ACLU. She will talk about the connection
between the state of our schools and the reality of youth populations in
adult prisons, and some promising lawsuits that have the potential to
radically transform this system.
