Al-Awda, The Palestine Right to Return Coalition, is pleased
to announce that our chapter in Los Angeles/Orange County will be hosting
Al-Jazeera correspondents Ayman Mohyeldin and Sherine Tadros on Sunday October
3, 2010 starting 3 PM at the Embassy Suites Hotel - Anaheim South, 11767 Harbor
Boulevard, Garden Grove, California, 92840. The title of their presentation
will be "Reflections on the Israeli Attack on the Gaza Strip". If you live in
Southern California or are simply visiting, come hear first hand from Mohyeldin
and Tadros on the human side of the Israeli attack on the Gaza Strip in 2008,
as well their assessment of the current situation in the Gaza Strip in the
context of international efforts to break the ongoing siege and the so-called
peace process. Their stop in Orange County is part of a multi-city US speaking
tour that includes discussions at Columbia University, Georgetown University,
University of Maryland, the New America Foundation and elsewhere.

On December 27, 2008, Israel's already crippling siege on the
Palestinian people of the Gaza Strip escalated into a brutal military attack.
Al-Jazeera was the only global news network reporting from inside the Gaza
Strip and "israel" for the entirety of the attack. Throughout Al-Jazeera's
reporters Ayman Mohyeldin and Sherine Tadros brought news of the human tragedy
unfolding to living rooms throughout the English speaking world. They found
themselves as vulnerable as the civilians of Gaza Strip. If you live in
Southern California or are simply visiting, come listen to their accounts of
what it was really like to report on the attack, as well their analysis of the
current situation in the Gaza Strip in the context of international efforts to
break the ongoing siege and the so-called peace process.

Ayman Mohyeldin is the lead Gaza Strip Correspondent for
Al-Jazeera English. He is an accomplished Arab American who reported on the
so-called trial of the President of Iraq Saddam Hussein before he covered the
December 2008 Israeli Airstrikes over the Gaza Strip. He became the first
journalist to report on the intricate network of tunnels that are now a vital
route into the Gaza Strip for medicine, food and fuel supplies. Mohyeldin was a
foreign news producer in Iraq with CNN (2003-2005). He studied International
Politics at American University in Washington D.C. and earned his BA in
International Relations with a focus on the European Union. He also earned an
MA in International Politics with a focus on Peace and Conflict Resolution. His
graduate thesis entitled "The News Media Paradigm in the War on Terrorism" was
recognized and accepted by the International Association of Media Researcher's
Conference in Barcelona, Spain (2002). Mohyeldin started his career working at
NBC News. Mohyeldin's coverage of major news events include the Iraq War, the
first multi-candidate presidential Egyptian Elections in 2005, Israel's
withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, and the 2005 Palestinian elections in the Gaza
Strip. As a producer, Mohyeldin became the first journalist to enter one of
Libya's nuclear research facilities after producing Col. Muammar al-Gaddafi's
first interview announcing Libya would abandon all WMD programs. Mohyeldin's
work in the CNN documentary "Iraq: progress report" about the daily struggles
of Iraqis during the war was nominated for an Emmy. He served as an associate
producer for the NBC News Special that also received Emmy Award nominations for
"Ship at War: Inside the Carrier Stennis" & "Inside the Real West Wing." He is
also known for his coverage of the annual Muslim Pilgrimage (Hajj) to Mecca and
was involved in the production of CNN specials "Islam: The Struggle Within" and
"Hajj: A Spiritual Journey." Before his assignment to the Gaza Strip, Mohyeldin
reported from across the Middle East, including on sectarian violence in
Lebanon, voting irregularities in Egypt, and human rights abuses in the Gulf.

Sherine Tadros is an Arab British journalist based in the
Arab world. She is a correspondent for Al-Jazeera English based in Doha, Qatar.
After obtaining two degrees in politics, Tadros worked for the Al-Arabiya
network as executive producer, before joining Al-Jazeera in 2005. During the
2008-2009 Israeli attack on the Gaza strip, Tadros and Mohyeldin, her
co-reporter at Al-Jazeera, were the only journalists for the English-language
news media reporting from inside the Gaza Strip. Foreign press access to Gaza
had been limited via either Egypt or Israel. However, Tadros and Mohyeldin were
already inside the Gaza Strip when the brutal attack on its civilians began.
