Local Call to Action!
On September 24, the FBI launched a series of raids on anti-war activists
around the country, claiming to be conducting an investigation into the
"material support of terrorism." In reality, this sweep is a frightening return
to McCarthy-era political repression and witch-hunting.
Shortly after these attacks, we held a press conference in Los Angeles to show
our solidarity with the targeted activists. There was an overwhelming amount of
support here in Los Angeles and around the country for everyone facing these
attacks. Unfortunately, the FBI is widening the scope of its "investigation,"
and recently issued subpoenas to three more activists in Chicago. We need to
step up our response accordingly. This fight will only be won if we stand
together in the face of this repression.

In Los Angeles, we are forming a local chapter of the Committee to Stop FBI
Repression (CSFR). We are asking all progressive organizations and people of
conscience to join us in this important struggle. We feel that you are vital in
our efforts to end the FBI witch hunts, and hope you can join us. Our first
meeting will be held:

Wednesday, December 15
6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
519 S. Spring Street
Los Angeles, CA 90013

At a recent national meeting in New York, the CSFR called for members to
pressure local Congressional representatives into writing letters and speaking
out against the FBI. We are will be having a picket and demonstration Friday
December 3 outside of Waxman's office at 4:00pm in hope of encouraging him to
support us. This attack is an attack on all of us.

I look forward to working with you,
Charla Schlueter

*September 24, 2010, the FBI handed subpoenas to fourteen activists in
Illinois, Minnesota, and Michigan to testify before a federal grand jury and
harassed organizers all the way from California to North Carolina. These
activists are involved in many groups, including the Twin Cities Anti-War
Committee, the Palestine Solidarity Group, the Colombia Action Network,
Students for a Democratic Society, and the Freedom Road Socialist Organization.
These activists and many others came together to organize the 2008 anti-war
marches during the Republican National Convention in St. Paul. Last week the
FBI widened the scope of its investigation, and issued subpoenas to another
three activists in the Chicago area who had been involved in Palestine
solidarity actions.
