On Monday, Israeli forces bulldozed the community space MECA helped build in Silwan, <http://gallery.mailchimp.com/4850389ae3e2d55804103e6af/files/img_0706_small.jpg> East Jerusalem, known as the “cultural café.” You and hundreds of other MECA supporters helped provide the funds to build the café and the sports field in front of it. This was a <http://mecaforpeace.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=4850389ae3e2d55804103e6af&id=baec3ec0bd&e=a676c83d90> unique project to provide a much-needed space for children to play and for youth and adults to gather. Its purpose was also to protect the land from being stolen by violent Israeli settlers or turned into a parking lot by the Jerusalem Municipality. The community and the staff of Madaa Center are determined to rebuild the café. With your help, we can support the residents of Silwan in demanding their right to live and build on their land. Their goal is to complete a new café in time for a Mothers' Day Celebration on March 21, 2012 (Mothers' Day is celebrated across Arab countries on this date). MECA has made a commitment to raise $15,000 for this project by February 29, 2012.
