Cool Michael.

So in the year 5813 we just might have some people with
birthdays on 13/13/13. But how do we figure out if that year has a "leap
month"?? I think I will try to research that. And please stay around until
at least that date Michael so we can celebrate the date with those whose
birthdate occurs on that date. (I would be 106 on that date.)

So are we all going to start a campaign to change the Santa
Monica Euclid street back to 13th street?

Hebrew calendar (luni-solar) has 13 months about every 3rd year. The months
are lunar months, about 29 days. The year has to conform to the solar year
because certain holidays must be right around the spring or fall equinox, so
they have a "leap month" quite frequently to bring the two different systems
into conformity. It's why Easter varies so wildly from year to year, since
it corresponds to Passover; Easter is also the first Sunday after the first
full moon after the spring equinox. Depending on how the lunar months
coordinate with the solar year, it can vary by almost a lunar month.

The problem is that the Hebrew calendar does not number from Jesus but from
"creation," so this is the year 5777 give or take a few (I stopped paying
attention quite a while back, but I'm pretty sure we're still in the 5700's.
Why I didn't worry about the world ending on Dec. 21, because the Jewish
mythology is that the world will last

6000 years - one millennium for each day of creation -- so we still have a
couple of hundred years before Armageddon. Then the world will lie fallow
for 1000 years while god rests, and then god will resurrect the righteous
dead [dead righteous?] into a heaven on earth, restoring the garden of Eden
where men don't have to labor, and women don't have labor pains.) So you
could have 13/13/13 on the Jewish calendar, but you'd have to wait until
5813, maybe 36 more years or so, depending on whether the year 5813 was a
leap year on that calendar. Of course in 5813 I will be 102 years old and if
I were prayerful would probably be praying for the end to come already.

Actually, I grew up just of 13th Avenue in Brooklyn, in the heart of the
then-Orthodox immigrant, now Chassidic, part of Brooklyn; my address was
1312 52nd St.
