[lace] Fan patterns

With lace design patterns like Lace R-XP (the only one I've got any real experience with), you can convert a straight design into a fan pattern just by changing the grid from say 45 degrees (torchon) to polar and positioning the design towards the outer or inner edges depending on the size of

Karen, the Spanish magazine La Encajera (which came with English language insert) had a series of fan patterns at one stage, still available as back issues. http://www.realce.es/la%5Fencajera/encaing.htm And yes, always match your pattern to the sticks before you start - I made that mistake with

Thank you Robin, yes I can see what you mean and of course I hadn't thought of that. I have seen that kind of leaf effect in one of my books, not sure which one for sure. I am not sure if my design program has a polar grid on it or not but I have not yet had time or need to try it. I picked

My daughter bought me the Anne Collier one way back, but no one pattern jumps out at me yet. Mind you I keep looking and often they grow on me but I like to change some elements. I think everyone has things that really appeal to their senses more than another design, am I right? Sue T

Thank you Margot Clay I found both of those very interesting. Lots of useful and interesting information for me. I wondered if you meant the ones with pretty designs on the top but thought they were not fine enough:-) Sue T Insect pins are very, very thin, with tiny heads. They're useful

Hello Sue (et al.) Now are you referring to the piece of lace at the top to distribute the dangling mobile pieces? This piece is the square magic Chain pattern from Springetts (?) Xmas book. However the attachment method from this piece as a hanging mechanism were some PIPE CLEANERS but I'm

Hello All, I have resubscribed to this list after a long absence and I have enjoyed the discussions very much. I have recently been able to get my lace supplies out of mothballs and begin to relearn and I have run into a discrepancy. I want to try a Torchon fan pattern in Louise Colgan's book

I don't worry about it - as long as I have a twist before the gimp and a twist after it to hold the gimp in place. Although, sometimes for effect, you might want to have the gimp right next to whatever it's outlining. In that case, I eliminate the twist between the gimp and the
