[lace-chat] maths question from a non mathematician

This has nothing to do with lace but I've seen this question answered before - when I didn't need the info. I have a magazine with patterns printed at 50% and 75% of full size. What size do I need to set a photocopier to get 100% of pattern size? Thank you. Patricia in Wales To unsubscribe

The 50% has to be doubled (200%) The 75% has to be at 133% (I think) There should be a formula for it, but I don't know what it is. Clearly the 50% is half of what you want. The 75% needs to be increased by 1/3 of 75% in order for it to get to 100% lrb "My email sends out an automatic

Thank you Lynne That makes sense to me. An answer many years ago used a formula which I didn't understand. I'm going to save your answer for future reference. Patricia The 50% has to be doubled (200%) The 75% has to be at 133% (I think) There should be a formula for it, but I don't

I don’t think that formula is right. If you want to double the area (A5 -> A4) you have to use 141% on a photocopier. That’s because you increase the length by 141% and the length by 141% 1.41 x 1.41 = 2 1.41 is the square root of 2 Going on that, if you want to increase the area by one

Thanks Joy, The last part, which I would call arithmetic, I can understand. I'm not going to say how long it is since I studied maths but suffice it to say that it is so long ago I've forgotten what it was about. I managed O grade maths, (algebra, geometry, trigonometry) sat at 16, and that
