Hi Arachnids,
I have been a busy, busy bee recently working the bridal garter, finishing off
a horseshoe and making up a brooch pin for my new daughter in law to wear at
the wedding recently. All done, received and appreciated. Lots of guests
cooing over the lace as most will never have seen hand made lace in their
lives. So thank you very much for the help given by various members of
Arachne, who know who they are, it really is always invaluable.
I have moved on recently to work a few pieces of christmas lace and had a
fancy to try some tatting this year. I saw a tatting book of snowflakes on
the internet and bought it and because my computer failed I concentrated on
making lace. No pressure, less distractions and surprisingly I have achieved
more than I expected which is a lovely bonus. I got advice and help from
Daphne Martin in 2012/3 to try needle tatting when I couldn’t get my hands
to work shuttle tatting. I had said that I had wanted to learn to tat for 40
years and never found another tatter. (To date I have still only been in the
company of one other person who was struggling to learn to shuttle tat and
when I showed her the book and needle and a couple of stitches with the needle
she sent off for the same items). Anyway 4 years later I have learned
enough to achieve some reasonable pieces to bring joy to me after all this
time. Like many people who make lace there is often the desire to try other
types and with the use of Youtube, the many books that have been written in
recent years than some of you trail blazers in the 70s and 80s. When the
Christmas lace is completed and posted I am going to try my hand at Macrame,
something which pleased my eyes but befuddled me and which I never ever tried
in the 70s etc. For many years I said I dont understand knots but learning
bobbin lace and then tatting and seeing the images showing the moves I am
going to dip my fingers in and see what happens.
I get lots of inspiration from many of you but not the speed.
Thank you all
