Lace Digest:

In regard to a name for de Guardia's "witch stitch" lace, the English Lace
Guild's quarterly, LACE #123, has a two page article with several photos by
Marina Reglieiro _www.escueladeencajes.com_ (http://www.escueladeencajes.com) .

She writes of Hinojosa Lace, which appears very like, if not identical to
the lace called "witch stitch," and traces it to a small village in Badajos
province where it was made for sale during the early part of the twentieth
century.

In "Hispanic Lace and Lace Making" May describes "twelve bobbin" lace, with
or without ground, being made in Andalusia, picturing two with very similar
appearance to those here discussed, but without indicating their place of
origin. She comments that some of the laces of this area and time appear
related
to Flemish lace, illustrating one with snowball fillings, but pointing out
that the designs are Spanish. de Guardia's efforts to sort out the origin of
"witch stitch" lace will be interesting to follow, and I hope she publishes
her discoveries.
