Botanica Erotica: proposed exhibition at NT Library Mezzanine Gallery
Monday Novemeber 26 start with launch Wednesday 28

GENERAL PROPOSAL: A collaborative exhibition between nine artists
and the Northern Territory Library, that explores the erotic and
sensual aspects of botanica.
Almost every culture has a tradition of celebrating the
erotic and sensual within the botanical world. Botanical forms have
been used to symbolise gender, generative energy, fertility, love,
lust, and sexual union. This symbolism is usually widely recognised
within culture and is considered to be deeply significant. It is
however also frequently linked to sly humour and irreverent laughter.
The nine artsists proposed for this exhibition work across a
wide range of media and processes and the concept of developing works
that will be shown in collaboration with the library's resources is exciting.
Proposed participants:
        Kaye Aldenhoven: poet
        David Collyer: composer and lace-maker
        Jackie Fleet: painter
        Tessa Pauling: porcellaine, ceramics
        Helen Peake: sculptural jewellery
        Bilha Smith: black-fired ceramics
        Lillian Smith: textile artist
        Geoff Sharples: sculptor
        Estelle Virgen: hand-made books, photography
NT Library: works from the Library Collection
