I'm taking Helen at her word and forwarding :)

It's good to read about the event, and be there in spirit, even as the body is sweating over a pillow in an overly hot and humid (I'm beginning to believe the tales of global warming; the climate had been bad 32 yrs ago, but it's *awful* now) Lextropolis/LexVegas (not <g>)

Subject: [lace-chat] IOLI Convention update
Reply-To: "Helen Bell" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Hi everyone

I thought I'd just post here, since I thought convention updates were
more gossipy than lacey, but if someone want to move my post, please
feel free.

Today was tour day, so it was relatively quiet for me in the Exhibition
room (I set it up, and am manning it). I actually made it home tonight
before my kids went to bed!

So far, I've met so many wonderful Arachneans, it's making my mind spin. I'm in Devon Thein wonderful lace history class with Alice Howell, and I
drool over (metaphorically not literally) her fall caps. She wears a
different one each day. Devon's class is fabulous, and I'm enjoying the
history of lace, as well as the fascinating sidebars that help put
things into perspective, and we have some lively discussion.

Yesterday I met Clay as we wandered the Teacher's showcase, and today I
met Kenn in the vendors room, when I was let out of the exhibition room
'for good behaviour' :-) Today I met Janice Blair and saw Sylvie again,
and there are so many others I just can't remember them all.

There are 25 lace contest pieces, and everyone's had a hard time making
their choice.

I went to the Arachne lunch on Monday, and it seemed to be very well
attended, and we all had a wonderful time. Vasna and Cindy (convention
Co-chairs and both on Arachne) did a great job hostessing it, and made
the announcements etc much fun.

Vasna has been a hoot when doing the door prizes at the lunch and
dinners, and has had everyone in stitches.

Liz in Melbourne (my Mum) is having the time of her life, and I don't
think I've ever seen her shine or bloom quite like this. (Best part is
she bought my Christmas gift for a couple of vendors :-) )

Cheers,
Helen, Aussie in Denver, loving every minute of her first ever
Convention, and who will probably collapse with exhaustion when Saturday
night arrives :-)
