I have not been to Exeter Museum but our local lace group had a talk by Carol McFadzean who has connections with the museum. I suspect that, like a lot of museums in this country, lace is being put into storage rather than being readily available. I would suggest that once you have decided which museum you want to visit you contact them and see what they have exhibited and whether they have any lace in the 'backroom' which you could look at. I did that with Allhallows Museum in Honiton a few years ago and spent a few hours studying lace which was not on display.
