I've heard that too, and the Gutermann's I've seen recently doesn't have the same sheen to it as the thread which I was buying in England, when Sandi published her book. What I've found recently is a matte silk, which is not as pretty to my mind. I would heartily recommend Piper's silk. A wonderful range of colours, and works up beautifully, even if you do have to order it over the phone or internet. delivery time can be slow, if they need to get the thread dyed for you, but otherwise is quite fast, and postage is inexpensive as the threads are so light.
