I seem to remember that somewhere in the distant past that there was a
discussion on software for converting digital photos to either cross-stitch or
needlepoint designs and that it would assign specific DMC or Paternayan
colors.
Can anyone remember which software it was?

There are a number of commercial software packages available. I have one
called PC Stitch. I haven't used it much, but have had some trouble getting
it to do a design in the scale I want. It's probably a case of operator
error, but thought I'd mention it.
