Frankly Tamara, although I freely admit that the country has a sort of 
youthful arrogance about a lot of things, I think generally speaking we are 
appropriately modest about our lacemaking prowess. I can't say I have ever met anyone 
involved in lacemaking in America who believed that our lace activities 
outstrip those of any other country or settlement, excluding perhaps Ice Station 
Zebra. As for non-lacemakers it is clear that they never give much thought to 
whether we are winning the "Lace Race".
