Regarding tools for lacemaking...
I found surgical forceps (hemostat in the US) cut my thread when I tried
them.
I do not recommend the forceps.

Just had another thought - if forceps cut thread, then they'd cut the tissue
if they were being used in surgery to clamp off blood vessels. So we must be
talking about different things. The ones I use have ridges which interlock,
but the ridges aren't sharp.

Perhaps forceps in the UK are slightly different to hemostats in the US - I've
never had any trouble with them cutting threads.
