Hi everyone and Sally My student-bobbins that I'm using for Flanders (myself being the student) have that 'sound' to them like you describe, and I have supposed they are made of boxwood, a more recent harvest than yours to be sure, and the wood therefore younger, somewhat less dense than old wood, but denser than other inexpensive, available woods. A couple of vintage continentals in my stash are similar to the ones you describe.
I like to think that a boxwood hedge that had been growing for a century or more, in the way of a 'new development' circa 1850, yielded heaps of wood for bobbins, for generations to come. great to read your messages Sally, keep well -- bye for now Bev, who would like a pillow full of bobbins made of *olivewood* in Sooke, BC (west coast of Canada) - To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
