Re: [lace] free lace books
Hi Jenny and interested Arachneans, It is interesting to know that the patterns of this book from Galicia are free to download. And that the book is a recopilation of patterns from the area of Galicia, a very famous area for its laces. They are mostly torchon and guipur types, and intended to be made with a coarse thread (Finca 20 or 30, for example). In this book the typical laces have been collected and redrawn with a computer, giving the possibility to make an edging, an insert, a little piece... with the same model. The intention of this book is letting everybody know the lace that is made there. I hope you all enjoy it. Best regards form Antje, in a sunny and warm Spain. - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. Re: [lace] Finishing a handkerchief
Thank you, Jacquie in Lincolnshire. After I sent the email, I googled my question, and came up with an arachne thread from 2004, where someone was giving a talk on the subject, and listed all of the books she knew of with information on the subject. I have one of them, but I much prefer a variety of instructions, as then I have the most choices, and the best combined explanations for my feeble brain. I am quite sure the internet has expanded lacemaking geometrically, simply because the resources are so easy to come by. Neither of my two major lace suppliers have the book, I would go to them first simply to support their business, nor does Amazon.com, BUT amazon.co.uk had a used copy for what I consider a relatively reasonable cost for a lace book, and I have ordered it there. I am a sucker for books, especially lace books, which tend to disappear after a while. No need to write for a catalog, and hope the place is still in business, or go to used bookstores in major cities hoping they had what I wanted, which wouldn't be so in the US, simply because of the dearth of lacemakers. Lyn in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, US, where it is a beautiful but cold morning, 12F, -10C, and hoping our New Zealand lacemakers are ok. I assume there are New Zealand lacemakers as well as Australian? -Original Message- From: laceandb...@aol.com Sent: Feb 23, 2011 4:02 AM To: lace@arachne.com Subject: Re: [lace] Finishing a handkerchief Find a copy of Mounting and Using Lace, by Jean Withers. [lace] lace in jewelry tambour
Hello All! Just letting my fingers do some walking today while following links for point de Beauvais. I stumbled upon Christine, by hand on etsy. http://christinebyhand.blogspot.com/2010_08_22_archive.html There's info on tambour with a link to a tambour tutorial PLUS a how-to for imprinting lace in PMC (precious metal clay). This could be interesting with one of Sandi Woods letters on a necklace or different small bits made as links for a bracelet. Hmmm. Re: [lace] free lace books
Thank you Jenny for the reminder of these beautiful publications. Catálogo Fíos e Cores is more of visual interest, unless one has shares in a thread company... A plotter-type printer with coloured inks, and a roll of wide paper will come in handy to print a pattern :p (we tried it at work) On 2/23/11, Jenny Brandis je...@brandis.com.au wrote: http://www.artesaniadegalicia.org/ga/web/descarga.php?ide=15pag=0 Catálogo Fíos e Cores They are very large files so unless you have broadband please allow HOURS to download these files. Re: [lace-chat] Beethoven's 5th - amazing
Thanks for sharing that. I love the way he even holds his little finger elegantly on the baton (at least some of the time) and the enthusiastic ending when he loses the baton completely! He actually knows the work! I especially loved the bit where he picked his nose: not to mention the last few bars of course.
