[lace] LACE #145

2012-02-10 Thread pene piip

I am so pleased that my copy of LACE #145 has arrived today.
Ann Dyer's article Playing with Spiders is very interesting.
And lots more stuff to read,

I got mine yesterday too. Went to my knitting group last evening and showed
them the pics of the knitted fans. I think they want me to look for some
stir sticks while I'm in England. I haven't seen the loopy ones here.

next day cold. I think snow is forecast for this afternoon but only 2cm but
with a flash freeze to follow. Very cold temperatures over the weekend.

Re: [lace] Spiders

2012-02-10 Thread lacelady
Congrats, Susan! Moving lace up on a pattern is very survivable. I'm proud of
you.

As to spiders... the basic one is easy to learn and remember. Maybe even a
variation or two, but I would also have the directions with me if I were
alternating a number of different ones. And, yes, there are many different
spiders. I know of two books written just about spiders.

We should get together. I made a hat band with different spiders all along it.
It would go well with your belt.

all finished by Tuesday. (Knock on wood for luck.)

My spider bookmark pattern became a belt by repeating the 8 different spider
motifs 5 times. I still can't believe that I moved the strip several times
lived to tell the tale! Unfortunately after all that practice, I still need to
use the directions to make each spider. Which begs the question--is there a
point at which spiders become second nature? I can see memorizing one or two,
maybe three, but good grief there are lots of spiders out there!

Hi Malvary

The stirrers are usually used in 'take away' type areas... motorway service
areas etc. the wooden sticks are available from places like Starbucks.

I love those fans too must get some of my UFO's finished

It's a really interesting article, isn't it. I hadn't realised one
could do so much with spiders. Can I also add that I'm very proud that
my lace group's display is featured (even though I didn't contribute),
especially the lovely piece on the back of the magazine by the
much-missed Sue Willoughby.

[lace] Lace Bookmark Exchange

2012-02-10 Thread lackam

Hello all,

While organizing the Christmas exchange this last year I was asked
about a book exchange by quite a few newer members who did not feel
they were ready for the Christmas exchange. It has been several years
since the last bookmark exchange and after consulting with Jenny
Brandis I have decided to organize a bookmark exchange.

Sign ups will run from March 1st through the 20th.
Partner assignments will be emailed out the 1st of April. (Yes I will
include email addresses this time.)

Mailings to partners should be no later than May 20th.

The rules will be the same as with the Christmas Exchange with pictures
being sent to Jenny Brandis to archive on the site. Please remember to
tell her where your pattern comes from.

I will send out a sign up notice the first of March. I hope we have
lots of participates.

Cheers,
Amber Lackey

Hi Sandi

Well done. Like Cathy I have always loved your work since I saw your shell in
the competition, one of those pieces I would love on the wall facing my stairs
so I would look at it every day and enjoy it. Keep going, we love your work.

Happy lacemaking
