Re: [lace] spangled lace
I agree, it's an early lace / prior to the 1600s. One of the tells is the spangles, in that they aren't round, but tear-dropped shaped. The whole point is to add sparkle. Imagine a gown trimmed with that lace in candle light! Beth McCasland in sunny and warm (!) Seattle On Tue, Jun 1, 2021 at 2:09 PM N.A. Re: [lace] spangled lace
What a find! Certainly looks early to me. Last year I did some yardage (from a pattern in Rosemary Shepherd’s Early Lace Workbook) and the cushion motifs and the method of work look very familiar! If I remember correctly, the pattern I worked was dated to the early 1600s. [lace] contact info for Gillian Dye?
A Google search didn't come up with a website for Gillian Dye. Does anybody have an email address for her? I have recently acquired a piece of 16th/17th C metal lace with spangles, and I'm hoping she can date it more precisely for me. Please email me privately at nancy.a.n...@gmail.com with any info. I'll upload a picture of the lace to Flickr as soon as I get the login info. I'm so excited at finding it. May 2021 was an amazing month -- I found a 17th C band sampler (on Ebay!!! -- the seller didn't know what she had), and then this piece of lace in a lot identified as mid-19th C.
