Re: [lace] Lenka type wire lace bobbins
Hi Devon, these have cup hooks on the top - are they of any use to you? http://www.lacewingdesigns.co.uk/wirework.htm jenny barron Scotland - To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[lace] Lenka type wire lace bobbins
At one time I purchased some bobbins from Lenka and Libor with cup hooks on the side which I just love. After they stopped selling them, Jim and Paul Stavast of BeeUtahful Bobbins made me some, which were great. But now they seem no longer to be making bobbins. I would like to buy some more. I was under the impression that Rain City lace sold them, but the address I seem to have gotten from the Rain City Website didn't seem to work. Does anyone have an idea about where I can get more of these nice bobbins with cup hooks on the side, not the top? Devon **Start the year off right. Re: [lace] Lenka type wire lace bobbins
Hi Devon - I vaguely remember your bobbins, and certainly remember how much you liked them! Have you checked with the usual European suppliers of mass-produced bobbins to see if they carry a similar base bobbin, to which you could add the hook? Otherwise, I'd suggest contacting Richard Worthen. He is a fabulous wood-turner, who will tackle almost anything we throw at him. Contact me privately for his email address! Re: [lace] Lenka type wire lace bobbins
I bought and used the bobbins with the cup hooks on the top. I bought them from Lenka with the kits in the early days since I don't remember seeing cup hooks on the side. The result was that the tops broke off of 1/3 of the bobbins. I rewound the wire on regular bobbins with the widest shank in my inventory. That worked very well and I didn't have any kinks in the wire lace. I think that any bobbin that is strong and insert the cup hooks at an angle you want will probably work. Re: [lace] Lenka type wire lace bobbins
I have taken classes from Lenka using wire and I prefer the hook on the top. They don't catch on other bobbins and/or wires when the hook is on the top like the Lacewing ones. They are very easy to make yourself if you have access to a very small drill. the hole for the 'cup hook' needs to be drilled so you don't split the bobbin wood. I also like to have a fairly thick bobbin as they need to hold up under more tension with wire.
