In honor of the 110th anniversary of the introduction of Halas Lace to the world, an exhibit opens at the Museum of Applied Arts, Budapest, on December 14, 2012. A lovely treat for visitors to Hungary this Winter season. Convenient city transportation. Halas Lace is made by needle, including the element that looks like woven cloth. The pieces are usually quite small, and it is still possible to purchase newly-made pieces, always with designs inspired by the Art Nouveau period. Lace collectors should consider the fact that there are very few laces made in our time of such refinement, and add a few 20th to 21st C. laces to their treasures. There is a tiny Halas angel (privately designed, but made in Kiskunhalas) in a pendant hanging on my Christmas tree. Probably the most valuable of all the angels in her company. She resides in a locked glass etagere (tall display cabinet) the remainder of the year. You can find a English language choice on the museum's web site (upper right of home page), but it has not been updated to tell about the lace exhibit. For further museum news, practical information, exhibitions, guided tours (in English, German, French), research and photo orders, go to _http://www.imm.hu_ (http://www.imm.hu) Notice the picture of the very colorful bright green and gold roof of the museum. This is my favorite museum in Budapest. There is always something new and exciting to see there. Jeri Ames in Maine USA Lace and Embroidery Resource Center
