Re: [lace] Shawl finished

2011-12-17 Thread Maureen Bromley

Hi

The shawl is beautiful, even more beautiful when you see it in 'the flesh'
so to speak She has made a very good job of it. Agnes brought it to my
house on Thursday evening to show everyone it before she gives it to her
daughter for Christmas.

Re: [lace] Shawl finished

2011-12-17 Thread Brenda Paternoster
I made myself a very large roller pillow to work large scale patterns on.

I used a roll of the insulating stuff for putting underneath wallpaper, it's
like a thin sheet of styrofoam. I think it was called Warmaline or something
like that. It came from a DIY store. That was the roller and for the rest of
the pillow I used three slabs of polystyrene glued together and hacked about
with a carving knife. A job best done outside as the bits get everywhere! After
that it was just a case of manipulating the cover fabric to fit. I have made
several scarves, a sweater in strips and currently have a table runner on it
and the roller is holding up well.

What a beautiful shawl Agnes. It is amazing how exciting torchon can be when
itis enlarged and made with colours and texture.

Have a happy and restful Christmas. You deserve it.

Last night I finished a Torchon shawl for my daughter for Christmas. When I
started it 2 moths ago, I was not sure whether it would be for Christmas
2011 or 2012, but I did it, and am quite pleased with the result.
The material was a mixture of alpaca wool, silk and rayon in lace weight.
Not the easiest to work with at it is very slippy and I used standard
English bobbins with spangles.

Hi again,
I FOUND IT Went back to the website and clicked on NEWEST FIRST. Up came
Agnes’s name with a beautiful beds butterfly showing. Clicked on that and a
set of photographs came up amongst them the lovely shawl. What a wonderful
gift for your daughter.
Happy lace making,

I too was having a job to find Agnes's shawl in the Arachne Webshots - your
instructions helped a lot but in my browser, Firefox8 for Mac, the butterfly
appeard third from bottom on the right hand side!

Lovely shawl and the colours are gorgeous.

Brenda

Scroll down the page until you get to the second one from the bottom on the
 left-hand side.

It has a photo of a butterfly, the name Agnes Boddington above that photo and
new in a red circle at the bottom left of that photo.

Click on the photo of the butterfly and you will see all thumbnails of the
photos Agnes has in her album - the shawl photos are the last three in the
 album.

Click on the first one of these labelled Shawl1 Dec2011.
